Ryan Hunsberger

Assistant Coach

Virginia Military Institute

Ryan Hunsberger began as an assistant coach for the VMI wrestling program in 2020.

Prior to that, Ryan was the founder and head coach of the Viking Wrestling Club in Woodbridge, Va. He coached, mentored, and recruited seven high-school All-Americans, 15 state champions, seven state finalists and over 30 college wrestlers. He independently trained 11 Division I wrestlers and two Division I NCAA Qualifiers.

Hunsberger has been the head assistant coach at Woodbridge High School for the past four seasons and was named the Virginia Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020. He has helped coach two state champions, five state finalists and 16 state placers. The team had three top nine team finishes in the state, and the school’s best finish in history (3rd place). Hunsberger also served as the Virginia National Team Coach.

A 2015 graduate of George Mason University with a degree in health promotion, Hunsberger compiled 40 wins on the mat, including three over national qualifiers.  In high school he was a 3x state finalist, winning the championship his senior year without surrendering a single point.

We have attended Coach Keel's camps for at least 4 years in a row. Its that good and we learn new things each time. Matt is great with kids, is an excellent communicator, and has a great sense of humor.

My son attended one of your camps...perhaps the most significant wrestling camp he has attended. He developed not only great leg riding ability, but great balance as well; he is like a "tick" on top, kids simply can't reverse him or get him out of legs. He now dominates kids that used to beat him. He is simply a much better wrestler.

Paul Dubois

The kids really liked the camp and certainly learned a different style than what were use to wrestling
